Hi, I'm Annie. 🪷
Founder, Aksharr Ghar
I grew up between two worlds.
One world was India — the festivals, the food, the languages, the stories, the art, the values, the feeling of belonging to something ancient and beautiful.
The other world was the one I was actually living in — where fitting in meant slowly setting parts of yourself aside. Where being Indian was something you explained, simplified, or quietly kept to yourself.
I think a lot of us know that feeling. The quiet tension of growing up desi outside of India — loving where you are, and still aching for where you come from.
Aksharr Ghar was born from that tension — and from the refusal to let it win.
I wanted to create something that said you don't have to choose. You can build a life here and still carry India with you. You can raise your children here and still give them their roots. You can love this country and still miss the one that made you.
So I created our first journal — because I wanted something that felt truly Indian, truly cultural, and truly ours. And I couldn't find it anywhere. So I made it myself.
Aksharr Ghar is for every Indian growing up outside of India. For the Tamil girl in Toronto, the Punjabi boy in London, the Bengali woman in New York, the Gujarati family in Texas. For anyone who has ever felt the pull of two worlds and chosen — quietly, deliberately — not to let go of either.
Aksharr Ghar is home. Wherever you are. 🪷

the name
Aksharr means a letter, a character, a word — the building blocks of language and story. Across India's many languages and traditions, the written word has always been sacred. Aksharr is eternal, unchanging, permanent — a reminder that what we write down lives on.
Ghar means home. Not just a place — but a feeling. The warmth of belonging. The comfort of roots. The knowledge of where you come from.
Together — Aksharr Ghar is a home built from letters. A place where culture lives, stories are kept, and nothing is forgotten. No matter how far from India you are.
what we make
We are a journal house. One product. One size. One price. Endless India.
Every journal cover is rooted in Indian art, culture, language, and tradition — from Bollywood and street food to devotional art, goddess energy, diaspora identity, and the humour that only desis understand. Each one is A5 hardcover, matte finish, 150 lined pages, with lay-flat binding and cream interior paper. Made to order, just for you. 🪷
We also believe in making journaling a daily practice — because writing every day is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself. And your journal should feel like home every single time you open it.
our values
India first. Every design starts with a real Indian art tradition, a real cultural story, a real piece of heritage. Nothing generic. Nothing borrowed.
For all of us. From Kashmir to Kanyakumari — we celebrate the full richness and diversity of Indian culture. Every state, every art form, every language has a home here.
For the diaspora. We design for every Indian living outside India who refuses to let go of where they come from — while fully embracing where they are.
Made with intention. Every journal is made to order — no wasted paper, no excess inventory, no unnecessary impact on the planet. 🌱
Write every day. We believe journaling is a daily practice. Your journal should feel like it was made for you — because it was.
